As summer is slowly creeping up on us we’re all wondering what we can do help get that natural healthy glow. I’ve outlined my top recommendations to ensure you’re glowing as we head towards the summer months.
Salmon: We all know that salmon is a source of omega-3 and omega-3 is great for our brain function however, were you aware that it also contributes to healthy skin as it prevents moisture loss.
Almonds: Almonds are dense in antioxidants which plays key roles in collagen production. Collagen helps ensure the skin maintains its elasticity and structure so you keep spooning that almond butter!
Avocados: Avocado sales have risen drastically in recent years, they’ve gone from a ‘feared’ food to an absolute staple. They definitely deserve their new found super status as they’re packed with healthy fats which contribute to the formation of skin cell walls. Hands up for another portion of smashed avo on sourdough?
Spinach: Once again the greens are out on top. Spinach is rich in antioxidants: vitamin A (beta-carotene) and C. These nutrients play a key role in reducing free radicals which contribute to aging skin. Spinach makes for a great salad base as it is also a source of plant-based iron.
Chia seeds: Again these kids are fairly new to town (only gaining attention in the last few years) however, they are a good source of plant based omega-3 for those of you who follow a more plant-based approach. Omega-3 helps to ensure the skin maintains its moisture and helps to prevent it from drying out.
Sweet potatoes: Sweet potatoes are a rich source of biotin. Biotin is also known as B7. It is required to help metabolise fats within the skin. As a result it contributes to that healthy glow.
Extra virgin olive oil: This is great for drizzling over salads. Olive oil is rich in omega-3 which can also reduce inflammation which may be present in the skin. Again it contributes to building healthy cell walls to give you that added glisten.
Whilst there are plenty of foods out there which can add to the summer glow, these are my key pointers. So don’t be shy to add some of these foods into your diet and don’t fear the fats, clearly they are essential for glowing skin.
